Is it safe?

Yes. We take extra precautions and lay down strict ground rules to ensure safety. Crime occurs in every country, but we have never had an SLM team experience a major incident of crime. Our genuine partnership with missionaries, pastors and other community leaders in the country you serve ensures there is always someone looking out for the well being of your team. Plus, remember that SLM will provide a Certified Team Leader to actually go with you on your mission trip. One of their prime responsibilities is to look out for your safety.

What about bugs, snakes and other poisonous creatures?

Most countries have their fair share of these types of creatures. While most SLM teams never see them, our team leaders and country hosts are equipped and ready to handle the situation should it arise. Working with full-time missionaries and local leaders provides SLM teams with security on every front that would be difficult, if not impossible, without them.

How does transportation work within country?

All transportation within the host country is included in the cost of the trip and will be arranged by SLM. Most often, teams will be riding in buses or other local transportation. Most SLM teams have dedicated transportation, but public transportation is also used when appropriate.

Can I eat the food and drink the water?

All food and drink provided by SLM during trips is safe for consumption. You will be advised at your Pre-Mission Trip Training and during your trip regarding food and drink that is safe or that should be avoided.

Will there be an opportunity to buy souvenirs?

Yes. There will be a time set aside to buy souvenirs if so desired.

What kind of food will we be eating?

Your food will be flavorful and generally made from local resources. Local foods can vary. In general, if you are a picky eater you need to get over it! We do not mean to be rude, but you will experience food that is different than you are used to. Flexibility will serve you well in this area. If you need, you can always carry extra snacks with you to satisfy your food cravings and/or needs. If you have genuine food restrictions due to medical reasons, be sure that SLM and your group representative have been fully informed of these needs.

Where will we stay on our trip?

While housing accommodations can vary widely depending on location and desired “extreme factor,” SLM ensures that each team has safe and sufficient accommodations for the duration of the mission adventure.

Do I need to get any vaccinations before I travel?

This depends entirely on location. SLM will inform you of any necessary vaccinations for your mission trip destination prior to your trip.

How long is a mission trip with SLM?

This depends on your group’s custom trip; however, most short-term mission trips with SLM range from 1-2 weeks in length.

How do I get started?

The best way to get started on your mission trip adventure is to fill out the Mission Trip Inquiry Questionnaire. After you have submitted the questionnaire, someone will contact you to begin the conversation!
